When breakthrough tarries

light breaking through

I’ve been reading the book of Exodus in the bible.

And it actually startled me when I actually realised how long Israel’s deliverance from Egypt’s captivity really took.

Read it for yourself – In Exodus 1, God was already defending the Israelites who were severely oppressed by the Egyptians but it is only 40 years later after Moses spent some time in the wilderness, that God actually sent Him to deliver them.

With all the signs and miracles and a person willing to go as a deliverer, we would think Israel would be out by Exodus 5. But no! Horrors of horrors – the oppression actually got worse.

The next time Moses talked to the Israelites, even his fellow breathren didn’t believe him.

But under God’s hand, Moses still went. And it took plague after plague before the dark coverings spiritually oppressing the people was dealt with, and Pharoah finally chased the Israelites out.

Even after Israelites had escape, the armies of the Egyptians still pursued Israel.

Quite a process I believe.

Sometimes we wonder how long.

Sometimes we retreat out of anguish because the oppression just got worse.

Sometimes we question the length and process needed for our deliverance.

Sometimes we face counter attacks.

It takes persistent faith to be free. And if the odds are stacked against you, keep trusting, keep learning, keep trying, keep pushing back the darkness. Keep crying out. And one day, when you hear God say stand still, ‘ I will deliver you’ and see your enemies drown before you, you will look back and marvel at His mighty deliverance.

In the meantime, trust that He remembers His covenant, that He’s timing is perfect and He will keep His word. He has not forgotten you.

Beyond all that, know that God longs to be known by you and He wants to demonstrate to you that He is a God that is good and wants you to inherit the land. He will do it, intentionally, no matter how weak our faith because of the cruel bondage and anguish of spirit.

Exodus 6:6-8

“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’”

Much love.
