Love//An act of the Will

Ever had one of those weeks where you question your significance and existence? Where you wonder whether you are worth the love poured out to you? Or whether it is worth pouring out the love you give?

I definitely have.

And while those weeks can leave us feeling rather confused, these are the times we need to cling on to the fact that love is not simply a feeling. That we can continue to love because love is an act of the will. An action.

During these times, I like to first focus on God who is the source of love. I then remember His love shown to me through sending His Son Jesus, to die on the cross for me. He did it out of love and when Jesus died for me it was sacrificial, not a mere feeling.

As I meditate on His love, I realise He loved me even before I did any good. That overwhelms me and helps me to want to love others and myself again.

So I will realise that I can still love. Not because I feel like it, but because I was first loved and I can carry that love forward.

As a famous person once said ‘We love because God first loved us.’
