The Shadow Proves the Sunshine

Light shinning through forest

That was a line in the song by Switchfoot (one of my brother’s favourite band when we were little) that always got me. That the shadow proves the sunshine.

I never really fully got it as a kid, it was just a really catchy tune and it kept repeating itself (parents beware of what your kids listen to ><)

But as I got older, and as life took dark turns, I started understanding the significance of that line. As I started seeing pain, darkness, anxiety, darkness. it mattered to me that the shadow proves the sunshine, and that no matter how low I go I will never ever ever escape from my Creator, because He is God, and even if I am next to the devil in hell, I cannot escape God’s presence. There is always light at the bottom holding me up.

In all our hearts, we search for light, we search for sunshine. Yet, we inherently find that there is darkness within us, some people call that sin, and its like a magnet. And that’s why God had to come down, so that sin can be atoned for. Light came down to darkness and for all who will choose light, there is that second chance, there is that hope, there is the sunshine and if we choose light, for us, one day there will be no more shadow, or fear, or darkness, or depression, or death.
